M. Swabb Interior Design Collective: Top 5 Kitchen Bells and Whistles

The kitchen is often considered the heart of the home—a space for people to cook, connect, and create memories. A place where no matter the size or upgrades people are drawn to and lasting impressions are made.

While all you really need are the basics, curating specific elevated design elements can ease your cooking and hosting experience while creating a custom flow for your family and guests.

Whether you are throwing the next big family barbeque, cooking for a cozy night in, or just popping your takeout leftovers into the microwave, here are 5 kitchen design bells and whistles that will bring your kitchen to the next level:

1. Double Dishwashers

Do you feel like you can’t keep up with the never-ending pile of dirty dishes in the sink? Adding 2 dishwashers to your kitchen redesign could answer that problem! There comes a time for every family or host when one dishwasher just doesn’t cut it. Instead of spending time away from the party hand-washing those extra dishes, add a second dishwasher to your design game plan. This will ensure you always have a clear sink and prune-free hands!

3. Appliance Garages

It is becoming increasingly popular to reduce clutter as much as possible in kitchens. That means breaking a sweat to put your air fryer back onto the top shelf after every use. What if there was a better way? What if you didn’t have to get out the step stool every time you put back on the apron and decide to mix up some cake batter? An appliance garage is the perfect space to conceal these everyday items while maintaining the same functionality. With a simple swing of a door, you have easy access to your toaster and coffee machine without the visual clutter of keeping them on the counter. Practical and easy on the eyes!

4. Integrated Hoods

Microwave fans and industrial-style metal hoods can be a bit of an eyesore above a gorgeous new range. Integrated hoods, utilizing the kitchen’s existing material palette, help unify your design and create a cleaner, more minimal design. They can make a bold statement or help blend in the utility space. Either way, integrated hoods meld seamlessly into the design scheme of any kitchen.

5. Reeded Glass

If you love the openness of open shelves but also love hiding your stuff, reeded glass cabinets are the right hybrid solution for you. Let’s be real. Keeping cabinets organized is HARD! The mix of your kid's bright green and purple water bottles with your grandmother’s fine China might not be the aesthetic you are going for. Reeded glass cabinets keep the lightness of open shelves while concealing the beast underneath creating the perfect happy medium.
