While we're all for putting Millenial Pink in our hair and Kale Green in our smoothies, when it comes to decorating a space, our go-to is Indigo! This beautiful hue is more than just a letter in Roy G. Biv's last name – it's what we at M.Swabb consider a staple color. Where some might put a beige or grey, we'll happily supply indigo. When paired with yellows or turquoises it creates midcentury modern class. Mix it wi...

Tile has come a long long way in recent years. When we think of a design-worthy tile, we think of the eponymous subway tile in New York, the pale pink and lime green tiles of old Los Angeles homes (back when they thought led and aspestos were good for growing girls and boys), or even the beautiful Portugese mosaics our girl Corrie knows and loves. Nowadays, with horizontal white subway tile dominating the market, we...

Like everything in life, interior design is cyclical. Don Draper's office chair? We'll take two. The brass of the 80s? Look who's back! But one of the most important style icons to be in our lives again is the palm! And while we certainly wouldn't turn down any palm tree – real or pattern! - the palm in question is the Banana Leaf.

The most widely known use of this motif is course at the Beverly Hills Hotel. It first...

At M. Swabb, we're lucky enough to have sunshine 364 days a year – that one day it rains, we do our taxes and dust the ceiling fans. This means that patios and decks are just another room in the house that get used every day, like a laundry room (do you hate us yet?). And that's exactly how we treat our outdoor spaces – why shouldn't such an important extension of your house get all the same comforts of home?

We at M.Swabb look to a lot of women to give us interior inspiration, ranging from Kelly Wearstler (homegirl can design a lamp!) to Jackie Kennedy, who revamped the entire White House, all while wearing pearls and a Chanel dress. But we need to give props to one woman in particular, the first woman – that's right, I'm talking all about Eve! Did she have a mansion? No. Did she even have a pup tent? Heck no. But the ho...

Okay, please excuse the punny name, we're still warming up! Cinco de Mayo is upon us and since none of know anything about Star Wars or May the 4th be with you, let's start here! As a group of ladies who like to extensively travel and, of course, living in the multicultural place that we do, we always love to take inspiration from other cultures – and the liveliness of Mexico is no exception!

More than just an e...

With the 88th Academy Awards taking place this Sunday, we thought it would be fun to look back on all the beautiful set designs from nominated movies going back as far as 1961. If the Academy would let us give out interior design Oscars, the set designers of these four movies would all have a little gold statuette sitting in their (presumably beautiful) homes.

The 34th Academy Awards: Breakfast at Tiffany’s...

The biggest misconception when designing a home is that if you have kids you can't have nice things. I'm here to tell you that that's just plain phooey! Now I'm not saying you should haul out your glass coffee table with the metal pointed corners, but I am asking you (nicely) to step away from the plastic-covered sofa. As my coworker Melinda so wisely said 'if everything's washable, what's the big deal?'.

Shows like Flip or Flop and those radio commercials promising a triple digit salary if only you'd come to 5 classes about real estate for the reasonable price of a thousand a piece, give house sellers the wrong idea. Whether you've bought an outdated house to “flip” (the word alone leaves a bad taste in our mouths) or you're selling your own house, you're not going to get buyers by doing things on the cheap.

When “de...

With 2016 brings change, and so we've decided to start a new blog feature where we'll showcase our favorite tables, chairs, rugs, etc. We always work towards one cohesive design that expresses our client's personality and the M.Swabb brand, but individually we bring different styles to the table. So in our debut blog post, we're going to take a look at which chairs most represent our design ethos.

The Eames Lo...
